Transport Minister welcomes BVRLA recommendations

Minister of State for the Future of Transport, George Freeman has written to BVRLA, acknowledging the importance of our industry and welcoming the association’s recommendations for how government can support fleets to drive the transition to electric vehicles.

In his letter, the Transport Minister expressed gratitude to the association for writing to the Prime Minister in December with suggestions on what the government should do in its first 100 days.

He confirmed that the suggestions made will help to inform the thinking of the Office for Low Emission Vehicles as they develop policy to realise the Government’s zero emission road transport ambitions.

The Minister concluded his note by committing to continue working collaboratively with the BVRLA and its members, saying:

“The Government will continue to work in partnership with the stakeholders the BVRLA represents, to support the transition to electric motoring. I look forward to a continued good working relationship with the BVRLA and your assistance in ensuring we deliver on our zero emission motoring ambitions.”

Chief Executive Gerry Keaney welcomed the response from the Minister, saying:

“Collaboration is a strong running theme at the BVRLA and we are delighted to see the Minister’s intentions to work in partnership with us. We will continue to work with government to take the collective voice of the fleet sector to policymakers, ensuring that when policies are being formed, they are supportive of business growth and a sustainable future mobility.”

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps also reiterated government’s commitment to working with industry ahead of the publication of the upcoming Transport Decarbonisation Plan, due to be published later this month:

“We want to work with industry and communities around the country to develop this plan, to make our towns and cities better places to live, help to create new jobs, improve air quality and our health and take urgent action on climate change.”
