Net Zero news this Green Infrastructure Week

It is Green Infrastructure Week this week (25- 29 April 2022), an initiative highlighting the British technologies that will be used to deliver the biggest gains in the transition to net zero. 

Earlier today (26 April), the BVRLA’s senior policy advisor Catherine Bowen presented at the EV Energy Taskforce’s Green Infrastructure Week webinar ‘Commercial EV Fleet Charging Requirements’.

Every quarter, the Department for Transport (DfT) releases statistics on the number of publicly available electric vehicle charge points in the UK, broken down by local authority. DfT has released the statistics for January to March 2022, with data provided by the electric vehicle and charging point platform Zap-Map. The next quarterly report is scheduled for release in July 2022. 

As of 1 April 2022: 

  • there were 30,290 public electric vehicle charging devices available in the UK 
  • of the total devices available, 5,494 were rapid chargers. 

Compared to 1 January 2022: 

  • available devices increased by 1,915, up 7% 
  • 338 more rapid devices, an increase of 7% 
  • there was an increase in total and rapid devices across all regions of the UK. 

Since 1 April 2021, the number of public charge points has increased by 33%, corresponding to 7,500 devices. The number of rapid devices increased by 29%, with an additional 1,235 public charge points.
