Government Roads Policing Review

The Department for Transport has published a Call for Evidence as part of its year-long joint review of roads policing, undertaken alongside the Home Office and the National Police Chiefs’ Council.

The Government is seeking views on existing practices and resources as well as evidence of effectiveness in improving safety and reducing casualties.

The review intends to:

  • identify which current roads policing methods are most effective
  • understand how the capability and capacity of enforcement services can be enhanced to improve safety and reduce future casualties on roads.

As part of the review, the Government is exploring how:

  • it can better use intelligence to target dangerous behaviours
  • technology can assist in enforcing road traffic law now and in the future
  • it can better understand the value of enforcement in influencing road user behaviour.

The association will be submitting a response and is inviting members to share their thoughts or suggestions with BVRLA Senior Policy Advisor Catherine Bowen

The consultation, which ends on 5 October, can be found on the Consultations page of the BVRLA website.
