Government clamps down on rogue parking firms with new Code of Practice

A new Private Parking Code of Practice will compel all private parking firms to have a process for rental and leasing companies to transfer liability to a customer who has hired a vehicle on which a notice of parking charge has been served.

The BVRLA lobbied for recognition of its members in the consultation on the draft Code of Practice, as no mention was made of how private parking firms should treat rental and leasing companies.

The new Code of Practice states:

8.3.3 Parking operators must provide a process for rental and leasing companies to transfer liability to a customer who has hired a vehicle on which a notice of parking charge has been served.

The BVRLA will now work with the British Parking Association to ensure implementation of this clause is straightforward.
