Committee on Climate Change call for evidence

The Committee on Climate Change has launched a call for evidence in advance of the sixth carbon budget which is required under the Climate Change Act .

The budget, which is due to be published in September 2020, will set out a pathway towards meeting the UK’s new net zero emissions target by 2050.

Responses to the call for evidence will help inform the Committee’s analysis over the next six months. It covers five key areas including the path to the 2050 target, delivering carbon budgets and emissions reductions in key sectors of the UK economy.

There are four transport related questions which cover topics such as;

  • Shifting 10% of car miles to walking, cycling and public transport
  • The potential impact of autonomous vehicles on transport demand
  • The barriers and adverse consequences of phasing out sales of conventional vehicles by 2030 and
  • Evidence and steps required to enable fleet operators to zero emission HGVs.

The BVRLA will be engaging with members early in the New Year to draft an appropriate response and will be submitting this by the deadline on 5 February 2020.
