BVRLA responds to draft Air Quality Strategy

The BVRLA has submitted a response to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affair’s (DEFRA) latest consultation on its draft strategy for Air Quality.

The BVRLA has submitted a response to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affair’s (DEFRA) latest consultation on its draft strategy for Air Quality.

The association has used its response to highlight the need for a holistic approach to tackling air pollution. Its consultation submission calls for the creation of a supportive tax and infrastructure environment to encourage the uptake of greener vehicles, as well as drawing attention to the current lack of supply for certain ranges of low-emission vehicles.

Taken together these measures could help boost the adoption of greener, electric and hybrid vehicles which in turn will help improve air quality in heavily polluted hotspots.

The BVRLA response also urges a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach to the implementation of Clean Air Zones to ensure air quality benefits are realised without unnecessarily penalising businesses and the local economy.

DEFRA will use the consultation responses it receives to inform the final UK Clean Air Strategy and the detailed National Air Pollution Control Programme, which are due to be published by March 2019.

The BVRLA’s submission can be read in full on the BVRLA website.
