Fair Wear and Tear standard - for the contract hire and leasing industry (passenger cars)

Who should attend and why?

  • Fleet Operators, managers, administrators or drivers who regularly discuss the condition of the vehicle with customers expecially during the contract period or on termination.

  • To give delegates the confidence to identify damage outside BVRLA guidelines at the point of collection and to ensure that, where identified, this can be charged back to the end user, if appropriate.

Learning Outcomes
  • Understand and apply the BVRLA Fair Wear and Tear standard and how the standard impacts on the vehicle, its saleability and its
    de-fleet value
  • Identify what repair methods are available, and the importance of correct selection
  • Develop effective communications methods with customers to limit misunderstandings and resolve problematic issues
  • Carry out internal and external vehicle appraisals, relating any findings to the BVRLA Fair Wear and Tear standard
  • To be able to hold a professional discussion with customers on fair wear and tear issues
The expert trainer will cover:
  • Background to the BVRLA and work the association carries out
  • BVRLA conciliation process and dispute handling
  • Vehicle Life Cycle
  • Why inspections are carried out and key factors influencing a vehicle's resale price
  • An introduction to the BVRLA Fair Wear and Tear standard for contract hire and leased cars, and appreciate it as the industry standard
  • Appraisal of the vehicle using a dedicated method, relating any findings to the BVRLA Fair Wear and Tear Standard

Training will be delivered with a 75 – 25% split classroom to practical workshop.

This programme is interactive and involves role playing to practise the principles covered in the course.
