City & Guilds FAQs and revision tips
To help ease the concern that normally surrounds exams here are the answers to the main questions asked by candidates:
What knowledge and experience do I need for the exams?
Anyone with six months rental experience or longer should be able to pass the exams because the exams are based on your daily rental work.
Where are the test locations?
Test locations are situated according to the requirements of candidates whilst also covering the whole of the UK. Attempts are made to limit the travel time to reduce the pressure on candidates, but individual candidates may be inconvenienced.
How can I revise for the exams?
- First, click here to download the exam syllabus. This contains the rules and regulations of the exams and the topics covered in the exams, paper by paper. Plan most of your revision around this information.
- You can attend the City and Guilds exam refresher course, the Daily Rental Operations Best Practice Legal & Update,which will boost your confidence and your knowledge before the exams. It will cover the vital legislation, insurance issues and other basics of daily rental, such as customer qualification. A specific session will tackle exam technique, review exam questions and suggest practical hints and tips for exam revision. - Download the BVRLA revision sheet that has been specially produced to help you revise, click here to view exam techniques.

- Use the internet, read publications and talk to colleagues to gain more knowledge on daily rental topics.
When are the results announced?
Results are announced up to eight weeks after the date of the exams. Certificates from City & Guilds may take up to another four weeks to arrive. The three top-scoring candidates may get invited to the BVRLA Annual Dinner in recognition of their success and level of expertise.
