Vehicle clocking fraud cheats car buying consumers out of an estimated £150 million each year. Purchasing 1 million new vehicles a year means that BVRLA members put many thousands of used vehicles into the marketplace, some with the potential to kill, as many buyers rely on an indicated mileage as a measure of condition and safety.

The BVRLA Vehicle Mileage Database aims to reduce vehicle clocking crime and protect consumers. It contains over five and a half million mileage records for vehicles disposed of from members’ fleets. Private buyers can access the data through companies including Experian (Vehicle Mileage Check, AutoCheck), HPI (HPI Check, RAC Car Data Check) and CDL Vehicle Information Services (MyCarCheck.com, MyTextCheck.com), in order to verify the mileage of a vehicle before purchasing it.

Mileage queries

If you have conducted a mileage check on a vehicle and 'BVRLA Member' appears on the report, this means that the vehicle was previously operated by a BVRLA member, a rental or leasing company. If 'BVRLA Associate' appears on the mileage report, this represents a service mileage, provided by a BVRLA associate member.
