Cutting business regulation

The government has launched a website to encourage businesses to submit ideas for cutting red tape and administrative burdens that are holding back innovation, adding to businesses' costs and stifling growth.

The BVRLA will be making its own submission to help members and would welcome their views on which regulations should go - just fill in the form below.

Please include any information on the cost burden the regulations place on your business.

The BVRLA is lobbying already on some ideas and you can lend your support to them below.

  • Multi-year VED: Being able to pay vehicle excise duty up-front for the full duration of the lease term would substantially reduce administrative costs and improve cash-flow to the Exchequer.  It would also bring annual administrative savings worth between £2 and £5 million for members. • Abolition of the tax disc:  DVLA records can now be interrogated electronically in order to verify if a vehicle has a valid VED. With the use of automatic numberplate recognition (ANPR) cameras and the rigid application of continuous registration laws the BVRLA questions the need to have a tax disc displayed on vehicle windscreens. Not having to display the tax disc would reduce the burden on fleet owners who would no longer have to distribute tax discs to drivers or retrieve them when they were seeking to claim a refund.
