Consumer Credit Act 2006

The Consumer Credit Act 2006 (“the Act”) amends the Consumer Credit Act 1974. The Act regulates consumer credit and consumer hire agreements. The legislation applies to agreements between companies and individuals, sole traders, partnerships and unincorporated associations, but not agreements made between traders and corporate bodies, such as limited liability companies.

The BVRLA Guide to the Consumer Credit Act, produced in collaboration with law firm Blake Lapthorn, brings together the key aspects of consumer credit law as it affects products and services provided by some BVRLA members, from pre-contract information to contract termination. The guide also includes issues affecting credit brokers and intermediaries, assessments of creditworthiness and how to deal with cancellation from a regulated agreement. It can be downloaded here.
