DVLA Advice and Guidance

The BVRLA works closely with DVLA to assist members in reducing the administration burden when dealing with DVLA.

Unfortunately, DVLA is fairly antiquated in their approach and many of their procedures require members to fill in forms and post documentation.

The BVRLA established a forum which provides members with the opportunity to:

Share best practice
Agree problem areas
Propose solutions to DVLA
Assist with providing data to help lobby on system and procedure changes for DVLA
Assist with development of the motor industry services project

DVLA Fleet Schemes

The DVLA offers two fleet schemes to members for re-licensing.

The Manual Fleet Re-licensing scheme is open to members who operate more than 750 vehicles and has the following features:

Covers any taxation class and any age vehicle
V11s sent out four weeks in advance, earlier than to general motoring public, so that they may be taken to PO to have licences issued by the 15th day of the month of expiry
Access to the fleet team at DVLA for queries

The Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) scheme is open to members who operate more than 1,000 vehicles which are less than 3 years old (no MOT testing requirement) at date of liability and licensed in PLG tax classes and has the following features:

Payment is by direct debit
Companies receive an electronic message eight working days before end of the month that is prior to the month of expiry i.e. receiving message on 19/2 for date of liability 1/4
